The United States launched airstrikes on Iranian military sites on Friday.
The strikes followed Trump’s Truth Social post alleging Iran breached the ceasefire by using drones against ships in the Strait of Hormuz, including one that hit a commercial cargo vessel.
The Central Command said the strikes targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, along with coastal radar sites, calling the operation a response to the attack on commercial shipping.
Iran rejected claims that Tehran had broken the deal, insisting that it controls navigation rules in the strategic waterway.
The US official said the limited strikes were a retaliatory measure only and did not end the 60-day ceasefire agreed to last week.
The renewed tensions have slowed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, and raised fresh concerns over regional stability and ongoing US-Iran peace negotiations.
Additionally, Israel and Lebanon signed a US-brokered framework agreement after four days of talks in Washington, outlining steps toward Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
The deal includes pilot military withdrawals, but its implementation remains uncertain as Hezbollah rejects the agreement and retains significant influence.
