The first round of US-Iran peace talks ended in Switzerland with mediators Qatar and Pakistan reporting encouraging progress toward a broader agreement.
The US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, along with White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, met with Iranian officials to discuss ways to turn a 60-day ceasefire into a lasting peace deal.
Both sides reviewed key elements of the proposed nuclear deal, including plans to implement a memorandum of understanding and create a framework for continued political and technical negotiations.
Yet the talks got off to a tense start. As Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf convened at the Burgenstock resort, President Trump warned on Truth Social that Iran would face renewed and even stronger military action unless it reined in Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Iranian state media denounced the statement as a violation of the accord signed by Washington and Tehran the previous week.
Negotiations are expected to continue throughout the week.
