Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government was investigating “credible allegations” that “agents of the government of India” had assassinated Sikh community leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June.

The issue was raised with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week at the G20 summit, Trudeau said.

Taking further action, Canada expelled a top Indian diplomat.

In retaliation, India refuted the allegations and expelled a Canadian diplomat, giving him five days to leave the country.
