A senior Iranian official on Saturday said their morality police “was abolished by the same authorities who installed it.” But the Iran government has neither abolished the same nor denied its existence so far.

On Sunday, Iranian women, activists, and analysts tweeted that misinformation about the morality police is just government propaganda. Many claimed that Iran is trying to reduce foreign pressure and divert media attention from the ongoing protests and strict hijab rules.

Human rights and women’s rights lawyers in Iran like Shadi Sadr claim, “hijab is still compulsory and enforced by other means such as expulsion from university or school.”

Protests still continue in Iran over 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who died under the custody of the country’s morality police. She was arrested for not completely covering her head with a hijab.
