Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s most far-right leader since World War II, emerged victorious as her party Brothers of Italy came on top in general elections Sunday.

She is set to become the country’s first female prime minister. But the decision on who will become Italy’s next leader will take some time as the president, Sergio Mattarella is yet to announce that.

After leading a conservative alliance, which includes Matteo Salvini's far-right League and former PM Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right Forza Italia, Meloni will take control of the Chamber of Deputies as well as the Senate, with around 44% of the vote.
