A day after a military raid by Israel left nine dead in the West Bank, a Palestinian gunman killed seven outside a Jerusalem synagogue Friday night during the Jewish Sabbath.

The gunman wounded three others before he was fatally shot by police. The attack—one of the deadliest on Israelis in years—came on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and risks increasing violence.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the scene on Friday. While talking to the press, he said his security cabinet would soon announce “immediate actions.” He also urged Israelis not to “take the law into their own hands.”
