Rishi Sunak became the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister on Tuesday and entered 10 Downing Street with promises to restore the tumbling economy.

But the new PM has rubbed environmental groups and opposition parties the wrong way by not attending the COP27 climate summit next month. He has been accused of "a failure of leadership,” for his refusal.

Environmental groups even claim Sunak is not serious about the climate crisis.

The week so far
UK PM Sunak appointed a mix of allies and experienced ministers from former prime ministers Liz Truss and Boris Johnson's administration.

Following Truss’ budget plan that triggered an economic downfall, which Sunak had predicted, the country’s new leader may make crucial spending cuts to revive the market.

In his first meeting in the Parliament, Sunak said, “We will have to take difficult decisions to restore economic stability and confidence. We will do this in a fair way.”

As a part of his first work-week as PM, Sunak rejected Truss’ several flagship policies.

He also made his first policy decision by delaying a plan by Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt for easing the UK’s public finances by two-and-half weeks, until November 17. The delay would help the plan new economic forecasts.
