One of the two National Guard soldiers shot by a suspected Afghan immigrant has died of her injuries, President Donald Trump said.

The National Guard member, Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, was shot near the White House in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, along with Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe.

Suspect likely to face murder, terror charges
Investigators say the alleged shooter, a 29-year-old Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, has previously worked with the CIA in Kandahar and received asylum in April.

Officials now expect first-degree murder charges, and federal authorities are weighing terrorism charges as well.

After the shooting, Homeland Security paused all Afghan immigration requests and ordered a wider review of recent asylum approvals.

Federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are executing search warrants nationwide.
