The suspect who killed 10 people and wounded 10 in Monterey Park, California on Lunar New Year’s eve died Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with the police.

The gunman who opened fire in the east Los Angeles ballroom dance studio was identified as a 72-year-old Asian male. Later, he fled to another dance studio in Alhambra and attempted to shoot again but surrounding civilians disarmed him.

Monterey Park has a predominantly Asian American community and is regarded as the hub for Chinese culture. The mass shooting is the deadliest so far in 2023.
