President Donald Trump unveiled a newly modified Boeing 747 as the latest interim Air Force One, replacing one of the aging aircraft that have served US presidents since 1990.
The new aircraft will serve as a temporary bridge until Boeing delivers the delayed VC-25B presidential jets, now expected in 2028 instead of the original 2024 schedule.
The luxury jet, donated by the Qatari government to the US Department of Defense in 2025, has undergone extensive military upgrades, including enhanced security systems, mission communications, logistics support, and advanced technology to meet presidential standards, at a cost of roughly $400 million.
The jet features a navy-blue underbelly, a red stripe, a large American flag on the tail, and the presidential seal, replacing the Kennedy-era light-blue design.
Trump described the aircraft as a flying White House and confirmed it will make its first international trip to the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, next month. He also announced a July 4 flyover and said his return from the G7 summit in France marked the final planned trip aboard the current Air Force One.
The acceptance of the luxury jet drew ethical and legal scrutiny because it came from a foreign government.
