John Bolton has reportedly agreed to plead guilty in a case accusing him of retaining sensitive national security information.

Bolton served as national security adviser during President Donald Trump’s first term before becoming a vocal critic.

Under the agreement, Bolton will plead guilty to one felony count and pay a fine of more than $2 million. The charge carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years, though a plea deal could help him avoid jail time.

The case stems from records and diary-style notes Bolton kept after leaving government service. Investigators alleged he retained sensitive information related to his work in the White House and shared some material through a personal email account.

A court hearing is scheduled for June 26.
