President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing the firing of senior federal employees earning up to $199,999 annually, a move that could affect roughly 8,000 government workers.
The Office of Personnel Management and White House released the order targeting individuals deemed to be “influencing” government policy. They can now be fired at will if their political views interfere with the lawful execution of orders.
The policy faced a legal setback in January when federal worker unions and allies filed a lawsuit to halt the changes. However, federal judges paused that litigation while the Trump administration finalized the order.
