California Governor Gavin Newsom accused President Donald Trump of abusing power by sending troops to Los Angeles without state consent and warned the rest of America that it would happen to them, too.
Newsom said other states should brace for unrest and that “democracy is under assault.”
Meanwhile, LA imposed a nighttime curfew as clashes between protesters and police continued. Protests over federal immigration raids have rocked the city for five nights, leading to over 380 arrests.
Trump authorized 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines despite objections from Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, who fear an escalation due to the federal presence.
