Republicans unveil new tax bill

The GOP proposed new tax breaks for tips, private school tuition, and overtime pay yesterday, as the Republicans in Congress unveiled a budget package that included trillions of dollars in tax cuts.

The bill would tighten healthcare benefits and see cuts to food stamps and green energy programs used by millions of Americans.

The legislation included many of President Donald Trump’s campaign promises and is the first step towards his “one beautiful bill.” However, it would not raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans.

It remains to be seen if the legislation will pass. One of the most contentious issues remaining in budget talks is also one of its most obscure: the state and local tax deduction, or SALT.
