Bluesky, the microblogging social media app backed by Twitter (X) founder Jack Dorsey, amassed almost 1 million new sign-ups just one day after opening to the public. It currently has over 4.5 million users.

The X and Meta’s Threads competitor gained over 3 million sign-ups during its close beta, invitation-only version.

Bluesky boasts of being a decentralized social media platform with unique features like custom feeds. It plans to monetize through premium features and a cut in developers’ purchases.

The app’s success depends on its ability to maintain growth and retain user interest compared to similar platforms like Threads and X, which currently have approximately 160 million and 556 million users, respectively.
