French superstar Kylian Mbappe signed a 10-year partnership with Swiss sportswear company On, effectively ending his yearslong agreement with Nike, Bloomberg reports.
The 27-year-old Real Madrid striker will wear On’s newly developed football boots and help the company design and test footwear and apparel. Mbappe will also promote the brand off the field, adding his global profile and fashion influence to On’s expansion.
The company’s first line of men’s and women’s soccer footwear is expected to launch in 2027, per The Athletic.
On shares rose as much as 3.8% after the announcement, while Nike and Adidas edged lower. The company also hired former France and Arsenal star Thierry Henry as its director of football. Neither partnership disclosed financial terms.
On, backed by tennis legend Roger Federer, began in 2010 with running shoes and later expanded into tennis, training and outdoor sports. Football could become another major growth engine, with one analyst estimating the business could generate up to $400 million in annual revenue by 2031.
According to The Athletic, Mbappe will receive equity in the company.
The company plans to use its robotic LightSpray technology to make lightweight football footwear and expand production in Asia and potentially the US and Europe.
Nike shares dropped over 2% on the news on Friday.
