Tech aficionados are weighing in on whether the human race is ready to move away from smartphones and tablets as screenless AI gadgets are flooding the market.

One such product is the Humane AI Pin from ex-employees of Apple. Priced at $699, it is a phone alternative that operates without a screen, relying on an AI assistant and an operating system called CosmOS.

The gadget’s unique feature is Laser Ink technology, which projects information onto the user’s hand. But for a device that boasts of doing away with hand-held devices, it has received poor performance reviews recently.

The laser projection is difficult to read under sunlight, the Pin has overheating issues and is limited in connectivity and functionality compared to smartphones.

People have also complained of its slow response time.

Despite its potential, the AI Pin is deemed unfinished and not worth the $699 price tag, plus a $24 monthly phone plan and an additional subscription for music.

While innovative devices like the AI Pin offer glimpses of potential solutions to phone addiction, tech gadget experts suggest users exercise restraint in their smartphone usage rather than relying solely on new gadgets.
