Apple’s new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch models’ ‘Crash Detection’ feature—a new function that detects and alerts the police during a car accident—has been calling 911 during roller coaster rides.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the smartphone’s axis gyroscope and high G-force accelerometer sensors are designed to detect front, side, rear-end, and rollover types of car crashes (all the moves of a roller coaster).

Upon detection, the phone shows a warning on the screen for 10 seconds followed by a 10-second countdown, after which the phone calls 911, relaying a message and providing location details.

Though the function has proven vital in actual car crashes, accidental calls tend to waste resources.
