Huge winter storm puts more than half the US at risk of ice, snow, cold

Freezing rain fell in parts of Texas on Friday as a massive winter storm began a dayslong trek across the US, threatening snow, ice, bitter cold, and power outages for about half the country.

By early this morning, at least 18 states and Washington, DC, had declared states of emergency, and 8,300 flights were canceled over the weekend. More than 200 million people were under weather advisories.
