Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted in the killing of George Floyd, was stabbed and seriously injured in a federal prison Friday.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed the assault on Chauvin by another inmate. No other prisoners or staff were injured.

The 47-year-old, currently serving 20 years, survived on receiving medical aid before hospitalization.

The incident follows the Supreme Court’s rejection of Chauvin’s appeal and his attempt to overturn his federal conviction.
