Florida state court and more than 11 universities in the US and central Europe are among the 3,800 victims facing the latest wave of ransomware attacks, per Reuters analysis.

So far $88,000 have been extorted according to the digital platform Ransomwhere.

“Florida Supreme Court's network and data are secure,” says spokesperson Paul Flemming. The US universities affected include Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and Rice University in Houston. Universities in Hungary and Slovakia were also targeted.

The cyber attack was not complex and many of the victims managed to get back their data without paying a ransom, say European security experts.
