A decade in the making, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) launched its trailer recently, offering a peek into Vice City and its two new characters, including the franchise’s first female protagonist, Lucia.

The trailer garnered over 100 million views in 24 hours on YouTube, breaking the previous record set by influencer MrBeast for the most views in a day for a non-music video. K-pop boy band BTS song “Butter” holds the record for the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours.

A big deal
The last version of the game, GTA 5, was released in 2013 and reportedly remains the second-best-selling video game of all time after Minecraft. It has sold over 185 million units and generated more than $8 billion in revenue since then.

Known for its R-rated content and controversial in-game prompts for players to shoot police NPCs, commit carjacking, etc, the sixth GTA series will debut in an era sensitive to such depictions.

GTA 6 is set for a 2025 release. It will be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
