Senior US and Chinese officials recently agreed that no country should impose tolls on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The agreement was reached during an April phone call between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and China’s foreign minister Wang Yi ahead of talks between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington still controls the shipping route, while China stressed that all countries share an interest in keeping the waterway open and secure.

Meanwhile, the US and Bahrain are preparing a new United Nations resolution demanding Iran halt attacks and illegal fee collection efforts in the strait.
