A Colorado jury on Friday found paramedics Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec guilty of giving a fatal overdose of ketamine to Elijah McClain in 2019 after being forcibly restrained.
Prosecutors argued the paramedics violated protocol and failed to monitor McClain, leading to his cardiac arrest and death three days later.
Both Cooper and Cichuniec were convicted of assault yesterday.
Experts say the jury verdict in the case involving the death of the 23-year-old unarmed Black man could have an unprecedented effect on first responders.
