President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” suffered a major setback after the House Budget Committee rejected it in a 16–21 vote.

Despite Speaker Mike Johnson’s push to pass the tax and spending bill by Memorial Day, five Republicans joined Democrats in opposing it. The conservative lawmakers demand more aggressive spending cuts to Medicaid and green energy subsidies.

Even if the package moves forward in the House, it remains to be seen if Senate Republicans can coalesce together to pass the legislation in Congress.
