The Department of Justice (DOJ) launched an investigation into reports of a leak of highly classified intelligence documents from the Pentagon.

The documents were published on Telegram, Twitter and 4chan recently and on Discord in early March. 

The leak is considered one of the most serious national security breaches since WikiLeaks in 2013, which exposed more than 700,000 US intelligence documents, videos and diplomatic cables.

In an email statement, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh noted there is an interagency effort underway to assess the damage the leaked intelligence documents have caused on US national security, American allies and partners.
