Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he left after the first strike|@SecWar|X

Defending the legality of a deadly double strike on a suspected drug boat in the Caribbean, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he didn’t see survivors before a follow-up strike was ordered.

“The thing was on fire . . . this is called the fog of war. This is what you in the press don’t understand,” Hegseth said, adding that he left after the first strike.

After reports came out that Hegseth ordered a second strike that killed survivors, lawmakers on both sides criticized the move. Some experts called the second strike illegal.
